Part of becoming a great broadcaster is having a great vocabulary and finding ways to vary your verbs and nouns. That is why a regular feature on this site will be “Announcer Alterations” where we take short clip of pre-existing play-by-play synced to video and come up with five different ways to call the same sequence of events. I couldnt find an actual radio call of this shot, just the TV version. However, since it’s opening weekend of March Madness I went with it anyway!

Grant Hill steps to the right and throws a full court baseball pass…..Laettner catches at the free throw line. Fakes right, shoots the fall away….YESSSSSS! DUKE WINS!

Grant Hill steps right. Steps into a full court Hail Mary pass….Snatched out of the air by Laettner at the stripe. Fakes and fades away….PURE! Duke Wins, Laettner shatters Kentucky’s dreams with a buzzer beater for the ages!

Grant Hill playing quarterback baseline right. Rifles a 75 foot pass. Laettner catches from 15 with his back to the basket. Turnaround J for the win….and Laettner twists the dagger deep into the hearts of Kentucky fans.

Grant Hill to inbound from 92 feet. Steps right cocks and throws. Laettner rips it from the air near the line. Shoulder fake. Falls away…Bullseye! The stars align and Laettner and Duke are moving on!

Grant hill moves right and catapults the rock down the floor. Homes in on Laettner. Laettner Shoots a rainbow from fifteen….MESH! Duke Leaves the crowd breathless as they win at the horn!
