A New Broadcasting Experience & New Site Features

posted by Logan Anderson August 28, 2017 2 Comments

This last weekend I experienced something new in my sportscasting career. I covered my high school season opener on Friday night, and for the first time, I didn’t finish it. A storm system came through, coaches saw lightning hit the ground in the distance, and with 4 seconds left before halftime the rest of the game was postponed until 11am Saturday morning. Vermillion was up 31-7 and survived a spirited comeback from their opponent to win 31-25. It’s only fitting that as I experience something brand new in my career, I take a moment to announce a couple of brand new features to SayTheDamnScore.com.

First, if you’ve paid close attention, and a few of you have, you’ve seen that I’ve introduced a critique service. I believe in transparency, and building this site has been an expensive labor of love. After paying a web designer, web hosting, podcast media hosting, podcast equipment, etc, I’ve sunk close to $3,000 into SayTheDamnScore.com. I don’t say this to ask for sympathy, but I want to continue to expand what the site has to offer, and that costs money. I need to come up with a way to bring in that revenue for expansion, and what better solution than helping people become better sportscasters!

How will it work? I know on a very personal level how hard it is to find qualified people to listen to your work and give honest detailed feedback. I can’t count the number of times I emailed a broadcaster to ask for critique only to get very vague feedback or no answer at all. It’s why I’ve gathered an extremely talented group of broadcasters who are willing to listen to your work. All have a minimum of college broadcasting experience and many have reached the division one or minor league level. They know what they are talking about and they will give you detailed feedback on what you do well, what you struggle with, and what steps to take to meet your goals. A percentage of the price goes to your assigned critiquer, and a smaller percentage goes towards supporting this site. I hope you take the opportunity to get better as a broadcaster while helping this site. Visit the critique page here.

Secondly, I’m happy to announce the Sportscasters Roundtable Podcast. This podcast will feature several sportscasters from different parts of the country discussing topics relevant to the industry in a loose group discussion format. The first episode features Alex Rawnsley of Sportscasterlife.com, John Liddle, the voice of North Texas women’s basketball, and Michael Hirn, a prominent high school sportscaster in Ohio. In this episode we keep it basic and discuss all the reasons why we #LoveSportscasting. I envision this podcast as a monthly show and look forward to providing you with more sportscasting podcast content.

Please let me know what you think of both the new podcast and the Critique Crew service. Suggestions on how to make this a better site are always appreciated. Thanks for all of your support over the last 20 months!
